RE: General Forum Interaction

Henry,

I take your point.

Phone calls are fine. But they are, due to their nature, simply a one to one call. One person speaking to another. But they can be in this day and age, a very expensive action. Given that one can make the same comment to many other people by making a public comment rather than pay for a phone call.

But......, I've had many cases where people have emailed me personally in response to an editorial on my website, or a post made on the forum, rather than respond publicly to those comments.

I'm sorry, but in these cases, and I make no apologies for this, but if people are not prepared to respond to publicly made comments, publicly, to state their comments or opinions, or stance, publicly, then I have no interest in listening to them in private, for the only opinion I can form is that if they are not prepared to state their opinions publicly, then they are not worth listening too.

One can communicate in this sport two ways these days, either by doing the cheap telephone bit and the forum bit, if they weant a two-way conversation. The cheap phone call is the one where they have a plan where it cost them just about nothing  to have time on the phone over any distance in Australia  but the downer , the conversation is only two way. And the other is the forum bit . The forum is suppose to be a varied version of a conversation of two or many people. Now some of the conversation can take all manner of twist and turns  and people if interested can drop in and say a few words if they want. But most I know is that a lot of people who use these types of these communications, usualy do one Or the other of them.

For the life of me, I know lots of people just get on the web and seek info on R/C sailing just for the sake of knowing. That they don't want to communicate anything of that knowledge for the edifcation of others. Now I know you and I don't share that veiw of keeping our info to ourselves but there are a lot who do.

There are many examples of people just not letting information out for one reason or another, particularly people who you would normally think should impart it. But this is one of those paradoxes of life.

Some of them are almost Ludites in their nature on this subject. Now I don't want to get into using big words , for this can lead into other areas of mis understandings. I remember once in my place of work, a work mate of mine called another worker a "Homosapient". At an instant the other worker took offence and said , I"m not one of those , don't you ever call me one of those ever again."weirdface

You can see why healthy discussion works on forums, dear readers, some other organizations squash  discussion on anything! And The people who are crying FOWL here are some of those people who like to stop discussions. Otherwise why would they send me your posts by email Mav, why don't they post on the page?

 The big picture EH? cry

My comments about people like this are not fit to publish on a public forum, nor are actions like that conducive to solving issues or rectifying problems.

But remember Henry, that there are many good people in this sport as well. Hopefully in time they will find their voices, and not be bullied into not speaking up.

Hi Henry,

I'm not exactly sure what is MY FAULT?

All I have done is, in a public forum, state an opinion, that anybody and everybody is entitled to disagree with, or agree with, or improve upon, or anything else that is their want.

If people do not choose to make open comments in a public forum, then once again, all I can say is, that this sport is in dire trouble.

I will not take part in separate discussions in private emails as all that does is perpetuate the same problems that have plagued this sport for many many years. A total lack of open and public discussion.

This problem as I see it is, harmful because with no open and free discussion, and no information being imparted to the membership at large, and more importantly, no information going out to potential new members, the general public, surely cannot be good for this sport.

In fact, as a recent example of this, is that there was in early May an Micro Magic regatta held in Victoria over the period of a two day weekend.

Where is there any general news of who participated or where it was held, or even that it happened.

Except for a Newsletter put out by Float-a-Boat who not only publicised the fact that the event was going to take place, but in a subsequent newsletter commented on day one of the regatta and even took the time to include some photo's of the MM's.

But where was the information from the official Micro Magic group???

If I am guilty of anything, I suppose it might be for my passion to promote radio yachting, even if sometimes unsatisfactory situations need to be raised publicly, for it seems to me that is the only way that anything might hopefully one day lead to a situation where unsatisfactory situations might be rectified.

My brief comments were not meant to be a witch hunt. They were just a plea for something positive to happen.

To deny my, or anyone else's right to do this, is I believe, to take a step back into the Stone Age when man feared saying anything for fear of upsetting the gods, except in this case, I am not concerned about the Gods. It's the repressive, narrowminded, ignorant humans that trouble me.

Existing communications within this sport seem only to be greared to those already in it, sort of, that is, on the rare occassion that anything is actually made public. This approach needs to be eliminated as all it is doing is killing the sport.

What we expected was that they poport to be officials of a national organization and they don't even read that Constitution before they start on anything. And If you say something like WHOA! You 're doing the wrong thing.

Mav, when you're dealing with children, go easy on them.

Yeah, that's why I'm kinda disenchanted with what's happened in Aus with the MM's as well.

Based on past experience, the same people who have made a botch up job of promoting the other ARYA sanctioned classes to the general public now hold executive positions in the MM group, and sadly I must state that I have nothing but contempt for most of them. But don't get me wrong. There are the exceptions in that group that have the the right attitudes but they are in the minority, and my fear, which currently seems to be substantiated, is that these right minded people are being supressed by jerks who are more concerned about official positions than promoting the class. And jerks is the least offensive time that comes to mind. I dare not state what my real description would be.

It is my opinion that the people who have done the most in terms of positive publicity for the MM are Adrian and Rhonda Brewer from Float-a-Boat who recently put out a Newsletter promoting recent meetings. They also put out leaflets and flyers on their counters if I am not mistaken.

But their interest goes much further than that. They have given me the impression that they are interested in all forms of radio yachting, and indeed for the promotion of any individual groups that sail, which is more than can be said for some of the committee members of the MM group, as well as the committee members of the ARYA whose influence is conspicuously absent from general promotion of radio yachting.

Where are the communications from these esteemed executive groups?? confused

Nowhere to be seen is the answer!!!

.... They say that the NRL are in big trouble in NSW and they are but no bigger trouble that what worrying our model yacht establishment. Both organizations are suffering the same desease called "Don't know where they're goingtites". They  think if they are racing , that all is well and ... hell if the wheels fall off , then we'll know about it Kinda thing.

Did you see the other day that class in NSW the soling one metre class had their championship in Lake Tabourie , down on the south coast and who do you think won this novice class?

Not a novice, no , that would be asking too much. Some jerk who had been around since Noah was a boy. Won past M and ten rater events and was very much in need of another tin cup. I figured this novice class was for novices, but hey , what do I know?cry

So I don't understand Maverick?? For they can't even get positive comments if there are NO COMMENTS.
I remember one classic confrontation where some bloke was having a go at "all those officials...etc" and we all had a robust discussion, till I challenged him to go and talk to the official .... and then it went all pear shape. And then they started ganging up, backing their mates up , not with agument but bagging.  And if the MOB is right ... then it is right.  ....... Didn't you know that Mav?

I understand your point of view, and I know I can get a bit pedantic, but I just try to keep similar topics together.

But I must also confess I find your comment about our posts being described as "intimidating" rather curious.weirdface

I would have described them as being open and informative.

But all sugar and sweetnes they may not be at times, which is just as well, because real life is not like that. It is great to strive for only positive comments, but for one reason or another, it may be necessary to make negative comments in order to promote a positive outcome. If unsatisfactory situations are not discussed, how on earth can they be rectifiedconfused

If this is "intimidatory", then this sport is much more trouble than I thought. cry cry

As a postscript I might just add that posts on these forums' will never be censored or modified, even if I strongly disagree, unless they involve personal attacks on individual's or otherwise are in discord with the previously published rules of operation of these forums'.

In fact, in the past I have refused to take part in any discussion on any forums' where any form of censorship, except for reasons as stated above, has been exercised. Censorship is for those who are afraid.

Topic moved from Golden Rules of Yachting  - Essential Fundamentals.

Well Mav , I didn't quite know where to put this post , again?

I hear your little forum is being use more and more . I heard reports from near and far and across the tasman of people tuning in. That we can say things on here that we can't (not allowed ) say on our hobbies forum. Not that we are swearing or calling bad names or anything like that but that we are just "intimidating" in our posts that we put up on it.So much so that they reckoned that other people would not post .And we "have been told to stop" ,  "to just go sailing" etc etc.Well here we have waited with "Baited Breath" not posting and nobody has put any posts up either!!!!!!!??????  Now all this is great, for it has just stopped Message Board DED but as your forum proves Maverick, things need to be talked about, till the funny situation is that , if you want to find out what is going on in the hobby you have to go to some other site OTHER THAN the official site!crywink
