Don't think you are that far Off-Topic so I would leave the post as is..

The basics of Bob's post I think was to highlight the small numbers of Boats entered in a Special Event..

Timing is sometimes the biggest thing for any event as is the location. Aligning the planets can be easier.

My feeling is that Events like State & National Championships have almost morphed into just another club sail day & the significance has been lost.

There just doesn't seem to be enough encouragement & promotion of events by the ARYA & to some extent the Associations themselves.. There just isn't enough Hype out there to encourage anybody making the effort to travel & try their luck & skills at these events.

So I think setting up Individual Class Websites to be a benefit to all. There are enough free ones out there, so cost can't be the issue. It all comes down to how the Class & the Members want to go about things..

It should be mandatory that every sail day is reported back to the State Councils for publishing the information on a central database whether that be State or National. There are so many people  that say they love their Class, surely they can put a few meaningful words together to promote their class, club & recognise all skippers, not just those that are winning.

Sometimes I find the guy that has got battered at the bottom of the fleet for years & has the occasional success to be more inspiring that the winners.

 Cheers

John

PS Congrats to Peter winning the SEQ EC12

In all my years of being involved in this sport, the ARYA has NEVER to the best of my knowledge come up with an original idea about anything.

All it has ever done is canvass opinions from individual member's about should one rule amendment be supported or not.

Now, I find that a really strange basis of operation. Why?

Individual member's have no rights, nor are even officially recognised by the ARYA!

Any query I have made, has always been rebutted with the comment, 'speak to your club'.

And yet, when they need to make a decision, they seek the opinions of those they normally ignore! The individual member's. When according to their structure, it should only be listening to its State representatives????

What a contemptible, hypocritical, insignificant, ineffective, neutered, group of individuals, the ARYA is!

They disgust me!

Bob

Maybe not enough advertising & promotion. Need to put things out there on as many websites & forums as you can.. Not everybody is in the Loop or goes to the ARYA website..

Just have to see the 10r's in SA.. NOR only appeared on 29 Sept & closed on 5th Oct.. Sometimes the Notices get lost in the stream of results & other less important news items.

Selection of dates during Footy Season Finals contributes..

I have noticed that most Championship events are turning into ONE DAY EVENTS, which is good for locals but not an incentive to travel any distances. Need to make them more important that any old Sail Day..

Just my opinion

John
