Response to a fellow enthusiast's email...

I recently received an email from a concerned fellow enthusiast radio yacht sailor, regarding the operation of these forums'.

Whilst the email asking the questions, gilded by appeals to the emotions comments, is not shown here, my response, below, should be enough for most folks to imagine the questions that were asked, and comments made.

My Response:
As far as moderation of the forum operation goes, the ONLY time I will moderate, is when and if personal attacks are made. I will not deny anybody the opportunity to state their views and comments. It would be most inappropriate of me, to moderate comments, just because I may or may not disagree with them. That kind of action belongs in the stone age, and it smacks of the way the ARYA operates.

And as far as my input goes, I have said many things over the years. I have stated my opinions publicly.

But it is time more people stood up to be counted. I have nothing but contempt for the silent majority, who leave it up to others to publicly fight their battles for them. And that is, in part, why I am not making many comments. I have had a bellyful of the comments made by many people who behind the scenes, make derogatory comments about other people 'behind their backs' but who are such cowards, that they will not publicly back up their comments. In fact, I have an unlimited contempt for these people... But sadly, these days, these cowards are the people who make up most of the decrepit and unsatisfactory membership of radio yacht sailing in this country. And this saddens me, more than words can express.

I may not be entirely happy with the way things have gone, particularly with regard to the old boats, but I believe the iEC12 committee are doing something positive, whereas, for the last 10 years, no existing member's have sought fit to bring the ARYA to task and to hold them accountable for their disgusting and non-professional approach to EC12 issues. It is these very same member's that are holding the class back, even now.

So whilst I may not be entirely happy about things, from an emotional standpoint, I believe that there is finally some light at the end of the tunnel, and I believe the committee of the new iEC12 Class have got it right. And they are to be complimented on what they have achieved.

Your input, and that of your friend's is most welcome, and to be encouraged. But I will not tolerate personal attacks on other poster's to these forums'.

I look forward to positive comments on the forum, even about negative issues.

Regards,
Don
Addendum: Finally, someone has had the courage to actually do something about a most unsatisfactory situation. And if this person helps promote this fantastic sport, then he, and his supporters should be encouraged rather than crucified. As far as I understand things, all along the way, everybody has always been invited, and encouraged to comment on the development and progress of the EC12 class. If people have chosen not to participate, then to put it bluntly, they are themselves, entirely responsible for the quagmire they may now find themselves in...
