If you think this is worth pursuing further, perhaps you may want to create a new topic in the general discussion area, or even in the already established Victor model products 12-metre forum, maybe in particular, commenting on what your club is doing.

I have it may take some doing . However , we will be better placed to know how it is when the two kits arrive. I don't know it may be like those Soling One metres, for they needed to be made in a jig to get them right.
I did hear from a mate in the States that the Aussie 2 had a good turn of speed. Anyway we will find out . The club is on a roll at the present time with new members coming after that Trans Tasman regatta and these little Mini Aussie 2s should fill the bill for the kids. Wow, I am impressed!
If you can get the folks doing something with their children, that would be absolutely fantastic!
Whether I just had pot luck or what, I don't know, when I built my Aussie II. But I can be a pain in the butt, as I tend to be a bit of a perfectionist, but I was quite pedantic when I built my own Aussie II, and she is beautiful.
As far as turn's of speed go, the Aussie II can in the right conditions, hold her own with even an IOM on certain legs of the course. It is a beautiful boat.
My understanding is that it does not quite need the same precision, i.e. the use of jigs, that the Solings need, but nevertheless, if you build an Aussie II, or Stars & Stripes, also by Victor, in a hurry, you could very well end up with a holy mess that is not suitable for anything but target practice.
But follow the instructions, apply a bit of common sense during the build and you will get a most satisfying boat.
Just before I finished building my boat, I was a member of a club in Lilydale in Melbourne. A guy there had an Aussie II and he had majorly modified the keel, because he said it tended to nosedive when running. So that quite put the sh**s up me. Anyway, I continued building my Aussie II and finally arrived at the day when I was ready to put it in the water.
After what I had read, about nose-diving when running, and it being a slow boat, about it being an awkward boat, etc., etc., when I first put the boat in the water, I expected the worst. I expected a dog.
But all fears were dispelled as I reluctantly let her move away from the lake's edge. She just took off!!! And I have never looked back. That boat is why I have developed my passion for the 12-metre boats.
I don't expect you to be interested, but I believe I can write a full account of that first sail with my Aussie II. And my belief and faith in that boat has just kept growing as I have sailed her. And as I mentioned earlier, after the Lilydale experience, I expected downwind sailing to be a problem.
As it turned out, one day Lincoln McDowell joined us and I sailed my Aussie II against his latest creation. And guess what? Downwind, the Aussie II was gaining, only ever so slightly, but still gaining on his IOM.
At this stage my faith in the Aussie II was well and truly vindicated.
Just let me know if you are interested in reading more about my Victor Model Products Aussie II. It may take me a while to put something understandable together, but if the demand is there, I will do it for the purpose of promoting radio yachting.
Whew, ok folks, it's over now.

If I might give you a gentle correction here MAV, The Victor boat is a Aussie 2 and not the fuller name. The general theme is to build a couple to see how they make up for Mini club members. Perhaps we might have to make some of it OR perhaps do some mentoring within the club with the parents involved.

We have no plans to go for the other class you mentioned for they are just too small. Someone said they were 500+ mm.

I'm Just wondering if I said the word "CIA" if all of a sudden my post would be whisked away to some secret location on your forum called "loose lips sink ships"? I keep thinking I might have to employ the "Court Kangaroo defence" of mmmmmmmmmmmmm! Well Henry, enjoy your last off topic post while you can. I have no idea of what you are talking about her, but then again, I'm not too bright.
No more off topic posts mate. That should see the end of your confusion. And mine.

Dear Admin. May I beg to differ on your deletion. The context in what I was saying about Mini Mariners Aussie 2 was in relation with Nautic 12s owners. And through this that they had concerns that their junior section sailing Mini Mariners Aussie 2 could be helped by the Nautic 12s. I hope you reconsider your decission?

Well Henry, the way I saw it was that you were talking about the Victor Model Products Australia II and contemplating establishing a new class. That has nothing to do with the Nautic12. That's why the post was moved.
But back to your point.
I can think of no better boat to continue the fantastic sailng that is available to the owners of the 12-metre yachts, than the Victor Model Products Australia II. However, my worry with this boat is, is that it requires some skill if one is to build it properly, and I must, sadly, state, that that is not going to be a promotional point for this boat, if one is going to get the younger generation involved.
It would of course suit me down to a tee if this was to happen, but if I am to be realistic, then I think a RTS, Ready To Sail, boat is the way to go these days. A selection of these is available from Float-a-Boat in Victoria, or if one wants to get into a small handy boat, albeit with a bit of assembly required, but that would be acceptable to international competition, then I would visit Radio Yacht Supplies Australia and check out the racing version of the Micro Magic.

Henry wrote:We had a meeting yesterday in our club that you may be interested in. We had a meeting about getting a junior class within our club and are looking at the Victor Aussie 2 as you may recall. So at the meeting we started to talk "Concepts" and decided it might just fill a need BUT what to call this new class/ Concept . Could we call it Junior Aussie 2, No? How about Younger Aussie 2, No? So we decided on the theme of "Ancient" and decided to call it "Mini Mariners Aussie 2". Do you like it ?
Henry, this has been moved from the Nautic12 forums' as it has no relevance to the topic under discussion in those forums'.
