RE: R/C Yacht Sailing Day at Cherry Lake on 15/12/2007

Well boys, tomorrow looks emminently sailable even if the wind forecast is for what I might call brisk winds, but they will be tending southerly by the time we sail, so should be OK, even if it does blow up a bit.

On day #1, my A2 was out in almost dead calm conditions. On day #2, in almost perfect conditions. I need to see how she goes should the wind really get up some speed, should that happen, which is unlikely, but I can hope.

See ya tomorra guys!!!biggrin

Hey Keith, you gunna bring the Avalonconfused

Steve, I have responded but in the General Discussion area, as any continued discussion doesn't really have a connection to a group of guys sailing on the 15th Dec.

Click on the link below, or simply go to the general discussion area of the forum.

This is the only time I will say," I'm with you" , we have a lake that is short of depth and we also think short is good.

Does anybody know what the current water levels at Cherry Lake are?

i.e. Is it full or starting to get low again? Why? Because I might bring another of my boats as well next Saturday, depending on water levels.

Obviously this question does not apply to any 12-metre, Victoria's, or even the A Class boats, as they only need 12 inches of water, but it may have an impact on anything else from, and including, an IOM up.

From memory, if the water level is at a point 1 granite brick equivalent below the top of the lake, you can sail pretty much anything, except the latest 10-R's and Marbleheads. The recent decision by the world radio yachting authorities, not to reduce keel depth has got to be one of the dumbest things I have ever heard, but that is my opinion only, but it is relevant to what you can and/or cannot sail at Cherry Lake. But I digress. Perhaps this is an issue for another topic.

Good on you for asking Keith. Many people stay unaware of features just because they have been to afraid to ask.

As a result of your comment I have created a new forum on the main page of these forums', called Technical Help, and put up a little screed there for help on this particular topic, just in case other users need help as well.

If you need further assistance, just ask your question in the relevant area, or create a new topic, and we'll see what we can do, or give me a call. You know my number.biggrin.gif

Hey, will your Avalon be ready for the 15th? She can obviously handle some pretty spectacular conditions according to the photo's.

As an addendum to my last post in reply to Keith, I have located some pics of the Avalon and a couple of A's sailing in some rough waters and have posted then on the net.

Clicking on the following link should take you there.

I must say, that apart from my 12's, having seen the Avalon sail in mixed company, she would undoubtedly have to be my favourite boat.

Way to go Keith!!!!

And welcome to the forum. Look forward to seeing you there.smile

Good luck with the rudder for the Avalon. I was just looking for some photo's the other night and came across some of the Avalon. That is one beautiful boat I must say, and in the right hands pretty much competitive with anything.

Good stuff!
Don

Gees Geoff,

You've put the pressure on now.weirdface

But I am itching to be there, irrespective of the ultimate result. It will be good to see and sail with you again.

Well, it looks like we have two starters. So folks, if anybody is interested in radio yacht sailing, come along. Doesn't matter what sort of yacht you have. Let's just hope it's not a 25 knot Northerly blowing on the day, touch wood, but in my experience, the wind should be in our favour at this time of year.
