On the subject of numberings, I will have to disagree with you, however, and perhaps, it's not such a big deal that it warrants warfare. My approach was just to keep it as simple as possible. But I take your point. And am tired, but OK to discuss further if you insist.
Human propensity? Well the thing here is that I had one of those once. It was a red one. Worked OK for a while but then the jiggywhatsit fell off it, and as it fell down, it damaged the dooverwacky, so it rendered the whole thing useless. So I just picked up all the bits, put them in a plastic bag, and put them all in the freezer. Will get around to fixing it one day.
$500 too much? Nah, don't think so. A brand new unleaded but painted EC12 hull is going for around $650 these days, I think, without any rigging or sails anyway. Pretty much a personal thing I reckon. To some it's worth it, to other's not.

So I'm glad we got that all sorted out! That you are Okay with this subject of numberings now? And I can ask you anything about it ? And about human propensity etc.
So the last question is , isn't $500 odd dollars a bit much for a boat that needs some work done on it and needs a radio , a new winch etc etc?
Let me try one more time to explain Hull serial numbers and Registration numbers one more time to you Don! A serial number is a number that is fixed into a hull of a boat generally to denote the order(or like a number order) in which a boat was made or a sequence. This number does not have to start at (1) and go through. It can start at any number the builder wants it to start like in the case of Sorenson EC12s. This number can also include in it a date as well. As an example the secquel of the boat can be .. say 27 and a date could be there for say a year date say 11/89, so that the number in your hull could read in this example 271189. the serial number of the hull says that the hull is from a known manufacturer. But is does NOT mean the whole boat is registered.
Registration numbers are totally different to Serial numbers and registration numbers do a different job.
Registration numbers denote WHEN a boat is registered amongst a lot of other boats in that class. It also shows that this particular boat will RATE to the Rating rules , for that particular class. The registration number can be any number the Class Registrar (a person) wants it to be. In other words you can ask for a particular number , if it is available.Registration numbers DON'T have to follow HULL secquetual numbers.
Further enquiries by me have revealed that this is a "Mini Mariner" Hull, Serial Number 100. Any further enquiries should be made to the seller. I'm not sure, by looking at the eBay photo, whether it comes with a hatch. This boat is unknown to me. If anyone can shed any information on it's history I would love to know.
I have since been informed by the seller that the hatch has been located and will be supplied with the boat. I have also been advised that in the opinion of the seller, who sought an additional opinion, that the hull is sound.
