So given a clean sheet, what would you do to best utilise what we have to get new people involved?
I ask as the same things should apply across the world.
Our issue in the UK is not selling boats/kits but it is getting these owners to get involved with the association, their local club or come to one of our events.
I'm posting this as a general member of the public who knows nothing about radio yachting but who is interested in becoming a part of the scene.
Apart from two informative newsletters from Float-a-Boat, who they send to their customers, and/but who may not have any other connection with radio yachting, there is an absolute and total dearth, (dearth means lack of), of publicly available information to any potential newbies to this sport.
So I don't know what these knowledgeable members of the committee are doing. Certainly in general public awareness they have been, and still are, totally ineffective in the promotion of this terrific little boat.
To their credit though, they are doing a great job in promoting it to people who are well and truly already involved in the sport. But preaching to the already involved really is a waste of time and energy, as I understand it, with regard to the promotion of the MM, to potential necomers to this fantastic hobby/sport.
I would be more than happy to support the committee who runs the MM provided they can let go of the ancient and outdated approaches to promotion that they are still currently employing.
This is a new age. Communication is taking place in an environment that the old fogies refuse to embrace. The Internet. And whether one likes it or not, the Internet is the communication that the potential newcomers to this sport are using, and the reluctance of the old fogies to embrace it, provided they hold the administrative positions in all the clubs around this country, and the ARYA, means that these inflexible people will always be remembered for contributing to the decline of the sport of radio yachting in this country.
And may they rot in hell!
