Congratulations to all competitors.
I was disappointed not to have caught up with Andrew Sands during my visit and Im sure my sentiments are shared by competitors of the event. As many are aware, Andrew continues to suffer from permanent back injuries and as a result has had to stop sailing the heavier boats.
Both Andrew and father Yeoman have been stalwarts of the EC12 class and while it is hoped Yeoman will continue, Andrews participation will be sadly missed.
The 2011 EC12 Nationals have been run and won with twelve entrants vying for the National championship title. The field consisted of one boat from Queensland, two from the Australian Capital Territory with the remainder hailing from Sydney based clubs totalling twelve in all.
Despite the small field, participants enjoyed varied conditions during the two day event battling a variety of conditions that tested everyones skills.
The event was well run by a host of volunteers from PRO, Scorer, Buoy Judges and rescue craft operator. Apology if I have missed anyone.
Final results will be published shortly. (More to Follow!)
ACT EC 12 NCRYC Members 2011 Nationals Preparations
National Capital Radio Yacht Club members Lyndon Wilson and Colin Durran have completed boat preparations and are now conducting test trials and trimming setups.
Lyndon has taken the opportunity to carry out a complete refurbishment of his old favourite and given the old girl a new paint scheme, fittings, mast and booms and internal winch platform. Sails are near new and remain the only item not replaced.
Weekend trials highlighted a number of minor issues that will be rectified during the week before the final tests are carried out next weekend prior to the Nationals.
Overall, both boats produced similar speed with noticeable ground being made with pointing ability.
