Hello all fellow AEC12OA members. I am pleased to announce that today we were informed by ARYA that we will have formal approval to host and run this regatta in February 2013.
The NOR and entry form will be posted to the OA website http://www.ec12.org.au/ within the next few days once the draft copy has been finalized.
It is with some personal satisfaction that I make this announcement as the staging of this event was one of the central planks of my original vision for the future direction of the class and this approval by ARYA is yet another proof positive of the furthering culmination of the overall strategy that was envisioned.
This regatta will shoot a very much needed boost to our combined prospects and place Australia up there shoulder to shoulder with our international EC12 brethren and will auger well for the future with a successful staging of this event. I commend it to you all and look forward to seeing as many AEC12OA members as possible at that time.
Thank you Straw, for this informative, and timely, update!
I thoroughly agree that a condition of eligibility to compete, for Australian competitors, would be that they were members of the AEC12OA!
And I also hope that, Lindsay Walker who is the new ARYA president, will be the person who will go down in ARYA history as the man who pulled out all stops to ensure that the EC12 regains its rightful place in Australian sailing history!
My best wishes for a successful Morgan Black Invitational regatta!

Hello Don, I am pleased to be able to announce a number of things in the coming weeks. As you and members of the AEC12OA are aware, we have been awaiting the outcome of events from the recently held ARYA AGM which was recently held in Hobart from where I have recently returned (complete with a massive dose of "dog's disease" which really wrecked my regatta and from which I am still recovering).
In respect of the MB Trophy regatta I am pleased to announce that just yesterday I submitted the application to QRYA for this regatta to be held at the Cub Kawana venue on the Sunshine Coast in the last working week of February 2013. A new website is currently being organized which will contain all documentation and details for this event.
Club Kawana have granted permission for the use of the club's venue and we are currently awaiting confirmation from the corporation Stockton who own the site, of the booking for that period.
As this event will be hopefully approved by ARYA (see no reason for any valid objection) the normal safeguards and insurances will be in place and we are awaiting confirmation of that also from them.
Although the outcome of the ARYA AGM was not the result I would have hoped for, nevertheless I was heartened by a personal approach from Lindsay Walker who is the new ARYA president who has assurred me that the EC12 ongoing saga will be resolved in the short term and he has asked me to write to him in order to get the ball rolling in order to resolve all the long outstanding issues that have been in play for almost 2 years now.
I have already drafted that letter and it is currently being reviewed by the other OA executive before submission later this week.
I dearly hope that the result of Lindsay's deliberation will result in the award and transfer of official control of the class to us owners in the OA. Everything revolves around this fundamental requirement that we have requested. We have proved many times now that the overwhbelming majority of owners wish for this outcome. We will now await the pleasure of ARYA.
The specifics of who will be eligible for entry is a mute point. We wish to encourage the participation of as many legitimate owners of currently registered EC12's as possible. This event is only going ahead because of the efforts of the AEC12OA and I would have thought that the obvious decent thing to see would be that competitors would support the effort by at least being a member of the OA.
The fact that this regatta is going ahead at all is testimony and proof of what I said to all those men who first supported and joined the OA. This regatta is an example of the kind of reward that can flow from being involved in a well run and organized association. Let there be many more such rewards in future.
More on these matters in the coming few weeks. I shall be communicating directly with all members as we have detailed information to report.
