A quick add to comments, the boat should be dry, I store my boats with those silica packs that come in packaging.....seems to work, there is a special crc produce for electrical circuits this works well. Happy sailing. Ron
Yes, I omitted that little detail in my original post.
It is the battery pack -ve (negative) lead that this happens to.
The result is, is that the battery pack will either not charge at all, any more, or the batteries will only receive a partial charge. In any case, neither alternative is appropriate, so as Wargames suggested, disconnect your batteries when storing your boat...

If you leave the boat in storage with the battery connected you will promote black wire. Always disconnect the power, dry the boat.....haven,t had this happen since I found out when I left my battery connected. Ron
If you haven't sailed your boat for a season or so, you may be in for a rude shock when you want to take it out again...
And I speak from experience.
Be careful if you use aluminium components in your boat, if they are in close contact to other metals. Electrolysis, can wreak havock in this situation, seizing up pulleys, winches, and whatever else you might have, where aluminium components are in contact with other metals. Or maybe even different aluminium compounds.
Also look out for 'black wire' corrosion on the negative terminals of battery leads. This only ever occurs on the negative terminal. I have no idea why. But you need to check for this, even if everything else seems okay. This phenomenon manifests as the negative leads of battery to terminals turning dark grey, or black, in colour, and is an extreme example of corrosion. There is no option, but to replace the leads in this case, and if really severe, may have even ruined the battery. This is an invisible enemy. So you need to check regularly!
