It seems to me that the discussion of topic 'Distribution of Waves Newsletter" was shut down rather prematurely and subject entirely to the whim of one particular moderator.
The question of how clubs distribute newsletters seems to be very much an individual decision of the club.
But there will always be an exeption to the rule, no matter what the rule is, not matter what discipline it applies to.
I am geographically located approximately 175 kilometres from my nearerest ARYA affiliated club. Yet I want to support the ARYA, but because of my location, especially in these times of rising fuel prices, I am unable to attend the club of which I am a member, except in rare circumstances.
But still, in order to support my club and the ARYA, I still pay my full dues.
But if I do not receive copies of Waves, which is the only mechanism that enables me to know what is happening within our sport, and the only tangible evidence of my support for the ARYA, then why the hell should I continue my membership? And only because I am not able to attend when the newsletter is distributed.
This to me smacks of some of the endemic problems that exist within our radio yachting community, and flies absolutely and totally in the face of anyone trying to promote this sport. Seems to me that I would put as much information out there, into the general public arena that I could, in order to promotte this sport. Restricting the distribution of Waves to existing members is to me the most mindless act that I can conceive any organisation pulling, unless it wants to still remain a secret society, that it seems to me that that is what the ARYA wants to be.
Ken, delete this post if you want. Your mindset is such that your initial reaction will be to delete it, but I guess all dinasaurs thought that if they trampled their prey they would survive. Unfortunately, that was proven not to be the case.

This is a copy of a post on the official ARYA forum.
Thanks Steve, for your response.
But I am disturbed, especially as the alleged offensive post by an 'novice poster' is now not available for review or further comment by anybody.
It seems to me, that it is hard enough to get anybody to post on this forum, irrespective of level, and I am aghast that simply because one is a 'novice poster' that that person's post should arbitrarily be deleted as unsuitable.
Deleted as unsuitable by who?
I am all for positive posts, but posts that simply applaud the status quo of the existing situation are absolutely and totally useless. Never in the history of mankind has ever any good come from applauding the efforts of the existing structure.
Progress, ONLY comes from constructive criticism. Mankind is made that way.
And to deny the right of the membership of this forum to read all replies, good or bad, is an indictment? of the narrow minded attitudes of the administrators of this forum.
And that is a shame. But it is more than a shame. It is a disgrace.

Below is a copy of a comment I felt obliged to make as a result of Ken Dobbie's post on the ARYA forum, where he stated that he had deleted or modified posts that he felt were inappropriate. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ken,
It is attitudes like yours that are contributing to the decline of interest in this sport.
You delete or modify any posts that are even mildly critical of the ARYA. Instead of taking criticisms as a positive thing, on which the sport can build, you choose to take offence.
Criticisms, are a basis on which to remove bad practices, but you seem to be bent on perpetuating bad practices, simply because that is the way things are, and refuse to listen to positively critical comments.
Moderate or delete this post if you wish, but should you choose to do that I will publish this comment on my own website, and make the comment of another inappropriate direction from an aging ARYA committee that has lost touch with reality.
I am absolutely staggered, given your obviously unconditional bias towards the ARYA, that you have been made a moderator.
I thought that opinions like yours were appropriate in the 1940's but they certainly are not appropriate in this day and age.
This is only personal to the degree that you have chosen to make it so, in your comments about deleting 'inappropriate posts'. You have made it quite plain that it is YOUR decisision to delete posts, that I am unaware of. Therefore, your objectivity is questionable, and as such, your value to this sport is also questionable. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Frankly, I do not understand why anyone would want to post anything on the official ARYA forum site and expect to get an impartial uncensored discussion about anything even remotely controversial. It is a laughingstock.
I know for a fact that there are some geriatric aged persons who will do whatever the ARYA decree, and indeed follow whatever directions the ARYA issue, and it seems to me that the established following of the ARYA is composed of geriatrics, but we need to look to the future, and in my opinion, most of, but not all, of the current office holders are not fit to lead this sport into the future.
More appropriately, these people are the ones who will be the last to hold office, as their policies, would have prevented any new folks joining their ranks.
Stupidity extreme! is their credo, as they state that what was set down 30 years ago still works, so why should we change it?
The mind boggles, for those whose minds still work.
