Perfect conditions today to test the Clear MM for leaks
Perfect A Rig conditions to start with then increasing to B Rig with the occasion overpowering Gust.
Using the A Rig the Boat was very stable & performed surprising well against the other 3 MM's on the day. NO Leaks which was good considering the Hatch Rubber Seal has been left out.
As the wind increased the boat suffered a few nose dives & a small amount of water was forced in through the hatch & fairlead exit point.
Very easy to spot once the boat was off the water.. Just blends in otherwise..
A few shots from the lake of the Boat approx 30m offshore. I do like the effect.
Any further & the boat disappears into the glare & reflections of the lake.
Really good fun boat to sail... I'm very happy with how it has turned out...
For the 2nd MMT we are goiung to try & do a Clear Keel as a demo.... Not sure how it will go... And Maybe a Clear Stand as well...
A few complications along the way to centralise the Servo for Sail Control.
So far managed to cobble together the MK2 Servo Tray & use the servo support from the MK1 Went together nicely & installed the Sail Servo down the centreline, likely the Standard Sail Arm that comes with the MK2.
The Steering Servo install needed the MK2 Bulkhead as support & MK2 Servo Tray. all went together fairly easily.
The Servo Tray for the Sails will be removable. Working on a more compact servo tray for 2nd MMT.. All that is left now is to run some sheet-lines & do a test sail..
Lots of lessons learned with this one.. Next one should be even easier to knock together.. On the water this weekend we hope..
Ran a few tests on the Drum with small weights to check the sheeting..
What a disaster.. NO end of tangles even with a small spring on the drum.. So out it went & In goes the JR NES-539. Problem solved Standard MK2 Sheeting.
Check weighed with 4 Cell AAA 900mah.. Came in at 898 grams, so well under what I expected..
MK2 Servo Trays are now ready for check fit & install. This will make rigging so much easier.
Also looking at things to improve the MK2 Wood Bits.. May have a source to upgrade parts in the near future.. At a very reasonable cost.. Or maybe just the CAD Files so anybody with access to CNC can do their own.. We have a few boats to test them out on first.
Sea Trial are a few weeks away I am affraid.. The MK1 & Mk2 MM's have a different Servo Arrangement & I have to say I'm spoilt by the MK2 Developments.
All of the Internals are normally wood, but with a little help from a friend we managed to do them in a CNC cut Acrylic.
The Internals are very tight so an upgrade to MK2 Internals was decided. We need to wait to get some Scanning CAD software from the US & hopefully have the profiles put in the system to enable a better batch of MK2 parts.
Little Toy Boat with lots of Technology..
I think she looks good with the "Brad Gibson, BG Sails, MM "A Rig"..
The Old Boy always inspects before Christening the Boat..
His Job is to wet the hull first
All about the fun... I've decided to call her "Illusion"

Yes I think it is one thing the MM guys in the UK should be real proud of.
They have also done some School Group activities as well.
I was left speechless & in awe of what they achieved & the joy they brought to somebody with a severe disability.
The thing I like most is that those involved at the top end of MM's are also keen sailors in other classes.. They sail the MM for Fun.
I can remember the disparaging remarks by some on the ARYA Forum yet they didn't realise that the guy they slagged off was a ranked GBR representative at the last IOM worlds.
It would be nice to think that the Exec went back & looked at the reason they took up Radio Sailing in the first place.. It was all about being included & having fun.. Once we started all this Ranking rubbish it all went haywire. & Elitist..
The Photos are from the International Boat Show in Qld.. There were lots of different classes there but only the MM got to do some sailing in the Ski Pond... One or two well known faces there.
Just so we don't bury the link I thought I woudl post it here again.. Hope Don doesn't mind..
Just been out sourcing some Clear Mast & Boom Material..
The Idea is to have the Boat as a Display Talking Piece. Hopefully showing & explaining to people how a Radio Control Yacht actually works. Get them talking & then show them a way into the sport.
I doubt it will get much attention from the WA boys as tool to introduce people into the sport.. It just isn't an IOM or bigger..
Sad thing is the MM is the best complimentary boat going around that can be sailed indoors with a few fans.
Suppose that Radio Sailing doesn't see the need to promote itself to all & sundry.
I do like how Qld go about things. Every opportunity is looked into.
Not saying the MM is the best.. Just a very good all round boat that sparks the magination.
If you want something to gladen a cold heart try this on for size. A reality Check. Maybe Mr D could benefit..
